More about Portuguese Filigree:
While I was in Portugal I didn't have the opportunity to visit the north were they have a strong tradition in the art of filigree jewelry. But even in Lisbon the pride of this craft was overflowing. The stunning art of Portuguese filigree has remained important over the years and is a distinct symbol of the northern regions of Gondomar, Viana do Castelo and Póvoa do Lanhoso.Every piece due to therigor of creation, assembly and finishing requires a large amount ofmanual labor.
In Portugal, filigree is an essential accessory and a mark of social distinction. It is mostly used in special events such as weddings or popular festivals. The pieces we feature were made in Viana do Castelo by skilled artisans. In this regiona bride wears not only an astonishing pair of the iconic sterling silver "Queen Earrings" (rumored to have been gifted to Queen Maria II during her visit to Viana and said to bringfertility to the wearer ) but also two or more gold necklaces around her neck and at least one heart-shaped pendant.
More about the Ana Moura X Portugal Filigree Collection:
We spent days, weeks and monthsselecting stones, refining designs, and approving models, combining styles and sizes to create thejewels I could never find in stores. They are pieces inspired by Portugal and my own stories. They bring back the visits to thejewellery stores with my mother, where we asked the jewellers to modify and customize our pieces. The canvas of the collection is the traditional Portuguesejewellery- Queen Earrings, Heart of Viana - in which I introduced contrasting colour and unexpected organic elements. I fell in love with the emerald green and the ruby red, colours that symbolize my country, but also the purple colour - a reminder of Prince that continues to inspire me. I love stones and animals like the snake, it was amazing to be able to mix it all up and end up with a very personal collection.
This is a predominantly gold-plated collection because I only wear golden, but we will also have jewellery available in silver. I love the collection and it is not easy to highlight this or that piece, but one of my favourites is the Heart Snake because it combines the symbolism of the Heart of Viana with two elements I love, the stones and the image of a snake.
Watchingthe collection come to life totally exceeded my expectations. They are eternal jewels, full of symbolism, that I will useand will inspire me for many years. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do ...
